Chapters of ‘Progress’

'Progress' has a national and international chapter. The aims and objectives of both these chapters are identical and inter-linked. The national chapter strives and pursues for the attainment of the goals of the 'Progress' at the local, provincial and national levels for a progressive, prosperous and a better Pakistan. The international chapter promotes the activities of 'Progress', interacts and cooperates with other regional and international organizations having similar objectives and projects in a befitting manner the national aspirations, causes and views on the international forums.

The National Chapter is registered with the government under the Voluntary Social Welfare Agencies Registration and Control Ordinance of 1961.

The International Chapter is registered with the government as a trust under the Trust Act of 1882.

Our Charter

The aims and objectives are directed at efforts in creating and promoting a harmonious society and a culture of global peace, to promote respect for the inherent dignity of all human beings irrespective of any discrimination, and to create a knowledgeable society knowing its rights and duties as responsible citizens, to create and evolve a sense of awareness among the people of the hazards of environmental degradation and of our moral, social and ecological duties and responsibilities to keep and make our cities, country and the world a safe and a better place, for our children and our future generations. It also strives for community development, in particular for the social upliftment of the under privileged, the marginalized and the needy communities, specially focusing on the rural masses and the urban slums.

‘Progress’ Works For The Promotion of:

1. Selfless Service

It provides an excellent opportunity and forum for people inspired and motivated with the spirit of selfless service, to improve the condition of the human society, by working together as a powerful group endeavoring to make our communities, our country and the world a better place for everyone, everywhere.

2. Social Services

It works for the alleviation of the sufferings and provision of social welfare services specially focusing at the rural areas, the urban slums, the socially, economically and the physically handicapped, the underprivileged and the marginalized communities.

It works for relieving poverty, increasing self reliance, improving literacy, providing basic health care facilities, encouraging women development, population planning, provision of clean drinking water, improving sanitation, promoting youth leadership development and income generation activities.

It works in partnership with the community promoting community, development necessary for conserving, maintaining and adequately developing human and material potentials in communities leading to self-reliance and sustainability.

3. Environment Protection

It works for the awareness and recognition among the public of the hazards of environmental degradation, including threat to the wildlife, the forests, the oceans, the atmospheric pollution, increased and unplanned urbanization, out fall of wars and conflicts and other related environmental issues, threatening to all life on the earth.

4. Human Right Concerns

It works and promotes for establishing an atmosphere of social justice, tolerance and peace where people can overcome poverty and live in harmony, with freedom for fear from all forms of discrimination and prejudice, freedom from want and the right to employment and well being and collectively to development with dignity and self respect.

It specially emphasizes on the protection of the rights of the minorities, the women, children, the handicapped and the special groups of people. It shall emulate from the universal declaration of the human rights.

It works for awareness of the understanding of other’s cultures, customs, respect and beliefs of the peoples around the world, to appreciate the differences, to discover similarities and to develop empathy for others – all necessary for creating a harmonious society and a culture of global peace.

5. Peace Concerns

It endeavors to establish a culture of global peace, promoting goodwill and understanding among communities and nations and promoting a vision of world without war and striving for society building through diminishing violence both within and between nation states, encouraging tolerance, diplomacy, communication and negotiations for conflict prevention and resolution.

It also bewares the world of the threat of nuclear war and planetary annihilation, making great efforts for unifying common beliefs, decreasing doctrinal differences and urging for consideration of alternatives to violence and war. Its activities and work shall be inspired by UNESCO Culture for Peace Framework.

6. Role Model

It provides a role model for other community welfare organizations and sets up directions for other NGOs.

7. Cooperation

It works and cooperates with all national and international organizations committed to the well being and welfare of the people and having aims and objectives similar to that of 'Progress'.

In addition it  encourages, supports and participates  in programs and projects that affirm to the dignity and the worth of the individual and the families. Its seeks to resolve human suffering, provide economic opportunity, to built sustained capacity for self help and to affirm the ties of human beings every where, providing emergency relief, elevating poverty, raising the socio-economic status of the needy community.

In CARRYING OUT THESE ACTIVITIES 'PROGRESS' SHALL COMMIT TO THE UP HOLDING OF THE HIGHEST STANDARDS OF RESPECT, INTEGRITY, COMMITMENT AND EXCELLENCE. WITH SUCH DIVERSE ACTIVITIES 'PROGRESS' SHALL TOUCH THE LIVES OF HUNDREDS AND THOUSANDS OF PEOPLES NOT AS A REMOTE FOREIGN BODY BUT AS A PART OF THEIR DAILY LIVES.

It shall reach out to people who are struggling each day in poor communities to survive and improve their lives and also those people whose lives are devasted by humanitarian emergencies. It shall focus its approach at the family and the community levels.

We belief that each person, each family and every community should enjoy a basic level of livelihood and security which should include: Food, Health Care, Place to live, Education, a safe and healthy environment, An ability to participate in decisions affecting themselves, their families, their communities and country, an atmosphere of social justice, tolerance, peace where people can over come poverty and live in dignity and security.

In carrying out this work we are committed to pursue and fulfill our mission with excellence because the people whom we serve – beneficiaries and donors deserve nothing less.

Lasting Results - Our programs are based on partnership emphasizing community participation and capacity building, both factors that have proven critical to local ownership and sustainability. 'Progress' shall leave reading to a lasting legacy in human and social capital.

Excellence in Action - We look at the big picture and combine approaches to tackle not only the symptoms but the underlying causes as well. This holistic approach results in diverse and innovative solutions, including programs that built capacities of local communities, that advanced girls education and equity for women, that promote dialogue and conflict resolution, and peace full co existence, that caters human rights awareness and concerns, and the well being, respect, protection and conservation of the nature and the environment.

Independence  - We are a non governmental organization and are not affiliated with any political religious, or ethnic group. Our over whelming goal is to improve the living conditions of the under privileged, the marginalized and the needy communities and to help foster development, peace and justice.

Our Work - 'Progress' is a community oriented organization working in partnership with community involving and touching all aspects of human experience, providing hope and opportunity to tens and thousands of people going straight to the heart of life – peace full co-existence, justice and security, safe and healthy environment, food, shelter and opportunity to overcome poverty, disease and ignorance. 'Progress' work springs from our donors visions to help the needy in order to provide new horizons for their families. Our strategy is to work alongside the people we  seek to help.

Efficiency And Accountability - More then 80% of the 'Progress' spended resources shall support program activities and remaining 20% to support administration and fund raising expenditures. We shall confirm to the highest accounting and financial standards.

Our Members come from all walks of life,  professions and socio economic states and includes doctors, layers, psychologist, economist, teachers, engineers, physicist, computer scientist, sports personalities, accountants, students, laborers, farmers, skilled and semi skilled workers, social workers including men and women from many other disciplines and occupations, all sharing a common desire to promote the well being of the people, lasting goodwill, friendship and co-operation – The well being of the people.

Our membership is open to all like minded people (above 18 years of age) and organizations having aims and objectives similar to ours.

This is a difficult and daunting mission and its completion is a long way off. But we belief we can make a difference with the support and the commitment of our donors behind us and a consistent set of values to guide and light our path. And as we undertake our work, it is increasingly clear that these values underpin our success. They tell us why we do what we do. And they tell us how- With Respect, Integrity, Commitment And Excellence. We do not claim to embody them perfectly – but we do seek to do so.
